お気に入りの歌（4）－"Green Sleeves"－

リュート初心者が弾きたい曲の一つが『グリーン・スリーブス』であり、『シチリアーナ』と人気を二分するのではないかと思います。もちろん歌曲としても有名ですね。いかにもイギリスらしい曲です。

検索と掛けてみると面白い記事がいろいろ出てきます。

まず、ヘンリーⅧ世（1491-1547）作曲説。2番目の妻アン・ブーリン（エリザベスⅠ世の母）に求婚を断られた際作ったとするもの。いわゆる伝説ですね。

記録として最初に"Green Sleeves"という文字が登場するのは、1580年出版の"A New Northern Dittye of the Lady Greene Sleeves." だそうです。

歌詞もいろいろあって、ルネッサンスの歌詞として紹介されているものは、

延々と「緑の袖夫人」に対する愛が綴られているのですが、結局は振られてしまうのですね。

その他、クリスマス・キャロル・ヴァージョンもあって、タイトルは"What Child Is This?"となっています。

因みに緑は不倫の愛を象徴する色だそうで、あまりよい意味を持っていないそうです。そう言えば、シューベルトの『美しき水車屋の娘』に「緑のリボンで」という曲がありました。

上記2ヴァージョンとも、波多野睦美さんとつのだたかしさんのCDで聴けます。

どちらの歌詞もなじみがあります。
ギター・マンドリンの顧問をしていた時は、上の歌詞で（もちろんこんなに長くは歌いませんでした！）歌いました。
下のキャロルは私のクリスマスのCDには必ずと言ってよいほど入っています。
それとメロディーも一箇所だけ違うのがありますよね。Alas my Loveのveのところの音が半音高いものもありますね。（nyankomeさんの歌詞でvがuに見えるのですが・・・。）
歌詞を書き写すのは大変ではありませんでしたか？

そう、メロディの半音違う箇所はひとによっては好き嫌いがあるらしく、友人はとても違和感があると言います。（私はどちらでもよいのですが。）
古いプリントでは、vがu、jがiになっています。
今回の歌詞は、手抜きでいわゆるコピ・ペです。(^^;)
（間違えるといけないので。）

バイオリンでいうとベートーベンのメヌエットとかでしょうかね・・・

どれくらいで、ベートーヴェンのメヌエットを弾けるようになるのか分からないのですが、ギターで言えば『禁じられた遊び』みたいなものでしょうか。

そういえば「水車小屋」の中にリュートが出てくるのでしたね。
緑色が好きな色になったり、嫌いな色になったりしますね。
ブラームスの歌曲で「わが恋は緑」というのもあります。
こちらは悪い意味はありません。

緑は爽やかなイメージがありますが、ときと場合によって良くない意味もあるのですね。『水車屋』に出てくる歌の正式のタイトルは「緑のリュートのリボンで」でしたよね。
